191 foreign nationals were deported by Bintan’s immigration checkpoint office

Tourism in Indonesia is an important component of the Indonesian economy as well as a significant source of its foreign exchange revenues. The influx of tourist into Riau islands province also influenced by the screening process which were done by the indonesian immigration checkpoint. Throughout 2017 in Bintan, more than 191 visitor were rejected by the immigration checkpoint office. Among other reason, the rejected foreigners were entering Tanjungpinang city without using a proper intent and clear document. In fact, 83 people have been denied entry into Indonesia forever.

78 companies went bankrupt in Batam, leaving 1,286 workers unemployed

Based on data from Batam city island department of workforce & labor, from 2014 to 2017 the number of companies closed tend to increase. In 2014 there were 37 companies close and 13,620 employees are laid off. This figure increased in 2015 with 54 companies closed and 7,188 employees laid off. Then in 2016 there were 62 companies close down with 378 employees are laid off. While in 2017 there are 78 companies close and 1,286 employees are laid off.
