Riau’s economic growth in the first quarter of this year is much better when compared with the same period in the first quarter of 2017. In Quarter I-2017 only grew by 2.02 percent, while this year 4.47 percent.

The economic growth also boosted Riau island nationally. Once in position 33 of 34 provinces, now rose 4 ranks in 29th position. “The economic growth of Kepri is rising and is in the 29th position above Aceh, Riau, Bangka Belitung, West Kalimantan and West Nusa Tenggara which is still the lowest,” he said. And within the regional scope, Riau Islands Regional Gross Regional Dosmetic (PDRD) contributes 7.85 percent to GDP for the scope of Sumatra Island.

However, when compared with the growth of Riau Islands in the fourth quarter-2017 ago, Riau’s economic growth in the first quarter 2018 decreased 0.93 percent. The category that experienced the deepest decline was the sector of government administration and compulsory social security, ie -23.26 percent. Meanwhile, from the expenditure side that experienced the deepest decline from the sector of government consumption expenditure of -71.88 percent.
